be idle.
Your closest friends, one hallway. Open your door when you're around. See whose light is on. Knock if you want. No ask required.
you used to just leave your door open.
In college, hanging out required nothing. Your door was open. Someone walked by. “You hungry?” and suddenly you had plans. Then you graduated, and spontaneous became scheduled, and scheduled became “we should catch up sometime.”
“idle is the hallway you lost after college. your door is open, or it isn't.”
three things. nothing else.
open your door
Just like leaving your dorm room door open. Your friends on the hall see your light is on. No message, no ask. Just “i'm here.” Customize your door — style, color, stickers, a note.
knock on their door
Walk down the hall and knock. Leave a quick voice memo so they hear if it's urgent or just “you tryna get food?” No text, no performance. Just you.
the common room
The shared space at the end of the hall. Drop in and your friends can find you — and their friends might wander in too. Natural introductions. Max 6 people. Always ephemeral. Just like the real thing.
three tabs. nothing extra.
Home is the hallway — see whose doors are open. You controls your door. Friends shows the whole hall.

The shared space at the end of the hall. Drop in and your friends can find you. Their friends might wander in too. Natural introductions happen the way they do in real life — through shared presence, not algorithms. Max 6 people. Always ephemeral. Nothing is saved.

you might be wondering.
What is idle, exactly?
idle is a social app built around presence. You have a door — open it when you're around, and your closest friends can see. Knock on their door if you want to hang. Drop into the common room if you want company. No feed, no algorithm, no pressure.
Why only 150 friends?
Dunbar’s number — it’s the most people you can actually know. We capped it there so your hall stays real. No followers, no audience, just your people. idle is a hallway, not a stadium.
Is it free?
Yes. Everything that matters — your door, knocks, the common room — is free, forever. idle+ ($1.99/mo) unlocks cosmetics like premium door styles, stickers, and knock sounds. It helps cover server costs. No ads, no data selling, ever.
What platforms is it on?
We're launching on iOS and Android first. A web version is on the roadmap for after launch, so you'll eventually be able to use idle from any device.
Is my data private?
Very. All messages and voice memos are end-to-end encrypted — we literally cannot read them. We don't use analytics SDKs, we don't collect your location, and we don't touch your contacts. Read our privacy policy if you want the full details.
How do I get access?
We're in open beta on iOS — head to the install page and get set up via TestFlight in about two minutes. Android is rolling out soon — sign up on the install page and we'll send you a link when your spot is ready.
What happens during beta?
Things might break, features will change, and your feedback directly shapes what we build next. Beta builds come through TestFlight (iOS) or Google Play (Android) and update automatically.
your hall is ready.
idle is live on iOS and Android. Get set up in about two minutes — your door is waiting.
free forever. idle+ cosmetics help keep the lights on.
